Jomhor News Agency was founded in early 2011 in Kabul, Afghanistan, by a group of professional journalists and prominent analysts from various fields. In addition to its central office in Kabul, the agency maintained active correspondents and representatives in all major cities across the country.
Since its inception, Jomhor has been recognized as an independent media outlet. While striving to remain impartial and balanced in its news reporting, it has consistently been known as a critical and reform-oriented voice in its analytical publications. This spirit of constructive criticism has remained unchanged throughout different political eras — during the presidencies of Hamid Karzai and Ashraf Ghani, and continues under the current Taliban regime.
The agency is headed by Mr. Hossaini Madany, a renowned Afghan civil and political activist who has played an influential role in the country’s political and media landscape for more than two and a half decades.
Over the years, Jomhor News Agency has supported and introduced many talented journalists to Afghanistan’s media community. Several respected media outlets have originated from within Jomhor, each earning its own credibility and public trust. Many of Afghanistan’s well-known journalists and media executives have also previously worked with this agency.
Throughout its long journey, Jomhor News has paid a heavy price for its commitment to truth and independence. Ms. Anita Kargar (Baghlan), Seyed Mahdi Hossaini (Kabul), and Marouf Sadat (Jalalabad) were tragically killed in terrorist attacks carried out by the Taliban. A number of other journalists have been imprisoned and tortured, and some continue to live under severe Taliban pressure inside Afghanistan.
Due to these continued threats, the management of Jomhor News Agency was forced to close its official offices in Kabul and other Afghan cities. Nevertheless, the Taliban still pursue the agency’s leadership and all journalists who have been affiliated with it.
Despite the growing restrictions and lack of access to reliable information for free and independent media, Jomhor continues its mission — gathering and publishing accurate news and delivering daily political, social, military, cultural, and human rights analyses.
So far, Jomhor News Agency has published its content in Persian and Pashto. From now on, it plans to publish selected reports and analyses in English as well. Due to financial limitations, the agency cannot currently employ English-speaking staff; therefore, some translations will be generated using artificial intelligence tools, which may occasionally contain minor inaccuracies.
In pursuit of freedom of expression, human rights, women’s rights, minority rights, and the fight against Taliban and international terrorism, Jomhor News Agency welcomes cooperation with individuals and institutions that support liberty, democracy, and justice.
